Vamosa were recently awarded a £1 million contract to migrate the content of a three strong consortium of UK government departments known as "The Club".
The club, which is composed of the Department of Health, Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Cabinet Office commissioned a project to standardise on a single content management system. The project will be carried out jointly with the global systems integrator Xansa however the role that Vamosa will play is pivotal to the success of the overall project.
The standardisation on a single Web Content Management platform involves the discarding of existing legacy content management applications which had previously managed a vast amount of web sites and a huge amount of content. The whole project will result in lower cost of ownership, ease of management and greater knowledge sharing across a number of government departments - which can only mean improved service to the government's customers.
Vamosa will be responsible for the migration of all the existing content stored in the various legacy applications to the new content management platform. Equipped with the Vamosa Content Migrator tool, their expert services team will spend a number of months identifying and adapting the content (to make it compatible with the new system) before loading it to the new platform.
This is no mean feat as Brendan Greene, Vamosa's project leader, says, "The scale of the project is absolutely massive, however it is in projects like this that the Vamosa toolset comes into its own. We will be migrating copious amounts of information from various disparate web sites and content management systems in the most accurate way possible today. The manual alternative of 'cut and paste' would be up to five times longer, at least five times more expensive, and a lot less accurate."
Of the project, George Knox Chief Executive at Vamosa, said, "Winning this business with the Club reinforces our reputation as the leader in the content migration market. The project itself is a great step forward for the government in their bid to deliver improved services to their customers - we will help them bring this to fruition in the most efficient, quickest, and cost effective way possible."
